We had lots of fun this afternoon making our model houses! We will post pictures when they are finished but in the mean time have a look at our fun story path we made today! The path tells the story of the 3 Little pigs!

The Three Little Pigs

This week we have started to learn about Traditional Tales. We realised that we knew lots! We have talked about;

The Three Little Pigs
Goldilocks and the Three Bears
Jack and the Beanstalk
Little Red Riding Hood
The Gingerbread Man

We decided to focus on The Three Little Pigs because it matched our topic about Houses and Homes.
In topic we have been busy working on our computer skills and also our building techniques. Look at our building site outside!

Here is our house made of sticks.

Here is a house made of bricks!

Now we just need to find some straw....

Coding!

In year one we are really enjoying learning how to code! We have a weekly coding lesson and we have learnt that when a computer does something it is following instructions called code. We have also learnt that the characters in our program are called 'objects' and when we make them move this is called an 'action'.

We have all been able to write a code for up to 3 characters at a time! Look at these pictures to see how well we are working with our coding buddies, you could have heard a pin drop when we were learning how to complete the next step!

The Victorians!

This week we have started to think about homes from the past and what it must have been like to live in the Victorian times. We have decided that the Victorians must have been very clever because there were some great inventions during this time.

On Wednesday we were lucky enough to visit the Priests House Museum. People have been living in the Priests House for nearly 500 years so there were lots of things to learn about!

We visited the playroom in the museum and were able to handle of the toys in there. The toys were very old and we had to wear special gloves to make sure we didn't damage them. We saw bikes, teddies and a pushchair. We saw lots of dolls which were made from wood, china and wax! Victorian children had to be really careful not to go near fire otherwise their dolls would have melted! We saw some peg dolls in the museum so we had a go at making our own when we got back to school!

We also visited the schoolroom! The schoolroom looked very different to our classroom! There were no bright colours or toys! There were two rows of desks that we had to sit behind and be very quiet! We had to stand when the teacher came into the room! We practised our handwriting on slate boards and some of us got the cane if we didn't do what we were told! There was a dunces hat in the classroom and children had to wear it and stand in the corner if they got something wrong! We decided we prefer green highlighters!

We went in a Victorian kitchen which was great! There were lots of things that Victorians used to cook with. We had to light the range which would keep the room warm and cook our food! There wasn't a sink so we had to go outside to wash our hands and the water was freezing! We made lemonade, toast and biscuits using all of the old equipment. We had to toast the bread on the fire because they didn't have a toaster. The lemonade was yummy! We made a Victoria Sponge cake in school for our assembly too.

The Day the Crayons Quit!

Today we imagined all the colours and crayons in the world disappeared! We wrote a class poem about the colours just incase we forgot what they looked like.

Red is the colour of a heart beating,
Yellow is the colour of the warm sun,
Orange is the colour of joy,
Purple is the colour of juicy round grapes,
Blue is the colour of the sea shimmering,
Pink is the colour of cuddles,
Green is the colour of freshly cut grass.

We really enjoyed reading the story 'The Day the Crayons Quit' too! Can you remember why some of the crayons were cross in the story?

Describing Objects

Today we have been describing objects. Here are some of our descriptions. Can you guess which of the objects were being described?

Smooth like a sword.
Round like a pizza.
Cold like the wind.
Grey like the mist.

Sharp like a sword.
Smooth like a tabletop.
Grey and white like a cloudy day.

Prickly like a tree trunk.
Hard like a stone.
Brown like a hedgehog.

Dear Orange...

It's not even half past 10 and we already have some super work that we want to share! We have used ideas from the whole class to write this poem about an orange!

Dear Orange,

Orange, orange don't you see,
Can I have you for my tea?

You look so handsome,
You are so smooth,
You taste like juice,
You are so quiet!

Orange, orange you are so sweet,
Do you mind if I have you for a treat!
