Reading

What reading opportunities do we have in year one?

We have a reading workshop every day where the children have a guided group reading session with me, with a 'post reading' activity based on the book the following session focusing on comprehension. 

We have Letters and Sounds every day for 30 minutes which focuses on the mechanics of reading. This is just before Literacy so the children are able to apply their learning straight away!

We have a fantastic library at Blandford St Mary which the children visit weekly. They each choose a book and can look at this during quiet time. In Year One we keep these library books in school. 

This is all in addition to our Literacy lessons, the reading incorporated in their topic work across the curriculum, and of course all the lovely reading you do at home!
