Monkey World comes to BSM!!

On Wednesday 1st of October Rebecca from Monkey World came to visit us! She talked to us about all the different types of monkey that they have at Monkey World. They have 252 monkeys at the park! There were 20 different species! Some of the gibbons at the park sing so loudly that they can be heard 5 miles down the road! Rebecca told us that in the wild the monkeys live in the rainforest. She explained to us that the monkeys are in danger because the rainforest is being cut down and talked to us about conservation.

We also talked about what the monkeys eat and we were a little surprised! They eat; bananas, raisins, jam, jelly, pasta, custard, cereals, rice, apples, strawberries, oranges, vegetables, cooked chicken, and also hot jacket potatoes in the winter! The monkey are not allowed chocolate or sweets. The monkeys have to work for their food, the keepers hide their food in their pens and also in their bedrooms!

We made feeding bottles for the monkeys. First we had to spray oil into the bottle. Then we put a handful of raisins into the bottle. Next we poked some wood wool into the bottle. Finally we gave the bottle a good shake! Rebecca is going to take the bottles back to the park and take some photos of the monkeys with our bottles! We are looking forward to seeing the pictures she sends us tomorrow!

Thank you so much for everybody who brought in something for the Shoe Box Appeal, we were able to send the monkeys 15 big bags of treats!

What a fun morning in Year One!!
